Eugon LT Sup is a nutritious (broth) medium for detecting and enumerating microorganisms in cosmetics. It is a highly nutritious medium used for the detection and enumeration of microorganisms in cosmetic products. Eugon LT SUP is formulated to allow a better dispersion of the test sample while neutralizing preservatives that may be present in cosmetics.
Generally, Eugon LT Sup medium (Figure 1) is used for the enrichment of aerobic bacteria present in cosmetic products. It provides a mesophilic aerobic enrichment environment for the selective enumeration of Pseudomonas.
Eugon LT Sup is used as a neutralizing diluent and as an enrichment medium for mesophilic aerobic bacteria in cosmetic products with and without preservatives.
Components of Eugon LT Sup medium
Constituents | g/l | Constituents | g/l
Dextrose | 5.5 | L-Cysteine hydrochloride | 0.7
Lecithin | 1 | Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) | 15
Sodium chloride | 4 | Sodium lauryl sulfate | 1.56
Sodium sulfite | 0.2 | Soy peptone | 5
Tryptone | 15 | Triton X-100 (Octoxynol 9) |
Triton X-100 is an excellent detergent that enhances the release of microorganisms from the slack matrix of the cosmetic emulsion.
Lecithin and Tween 80 are neutralizers that inactivate preservatives like quaternary ammonium compounds, phenol and aldehydes derivates.
Organisms that can be cultivated with Eugon LT SUP Medium
Pseudomonas, incl. Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Staphylococcus aureus
Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bacillus Xanthomonas
Achromobacter
Anaerobic bacteria
Candida albicans
